Thank you for using Roodo (“we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information about you when you use our ride-hailing mobile application (the “App”) and related services.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information to provide and improve our services:
- Account information: Email address, name or display name, profile photo (optional).
- Authentication data: One-time passwords (OTP) for email verification, hashed authentication tokens.
- Device & usage data: Device model, operating system, app version, crash logs, IP address, and analytics data about how you use the app.
- Location data: Real-time and historical location data (GPS and derived locations) while the app is active or when you give explicit background permission. Location is used for ride matching, navigation, and showing nearby captains.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information for the following purposes:
- To create and manage your account, and to verify your email via OTP.
- To match riders and captains and display captains near you using geo-hashing for spatial indexing.
- To provide real-time updates and communication using WebSocket connections for high throughput and low latency.
- For navigation and turn-by-turn routing during an active ride.
- To provide customer support, respond to legal requests, and ensure platform safety.
- To detect, prevent, and mitigate fraud, abuse, or technical issues.
- To analyze and improve our services, and to deliver relevant notifications and updates.
3. Location Data — Details & Controls
Location is central to our service. We collect location data in the following ways:
- While app is in use: We request periodic location updates to provide accurate pickup, ETA, and route tracking.
- Background location (optional): If you grant background location permission, we may collect location updates when the app is not in the foreground — for example, to continue tracking an ongoing trip. Background location is only used with your explicit consent.
- Privacy protections: Before being sent to our servers, location points are processed with geo-hashing. Data is transmitted over encrypted channels and stored securely.
4. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data in the following limited situations:
- Service providers: Third parties that provide services for us (e.g., mapping providers, push notifications, analytics). These providers only receive the information necessary to perform their role.
- Captains and riders: During an active ride, relevant trip information (pickup location, destination, rider name or anonymized identifier, and route) is shared with the assigned captain.
- Legal requests: We may disclose data to comply with laws, regulations, or law enforcement requests where legally required.
- Business transfers: If the company is involved in a merger or acquisition, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction.
5. Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary to provide services, comply with legal obligations, and ensure safety.
- Account data: Retained while your account is active and for a short period after deletion.
